Feeling tired or overloaded? It’s not just you. Many of us are feeling the effects of what some are calling an “emotional recession”, a time when everything seems a little harder than usual. What would it be like to step out of your usual rhythm for a while – to slow down, breathe more deeply, and feel truly nourished?
Let this time be just for you.
This is an invitation to do something deeply good for yourself –
to slow down, learn a beautiful and nourishing practice, and spend a week in mindful, human connection.
This week‑long urban retreat in Bern offers exactly that: a spacious pause in the middle of everyday life. Bern, known for its unhurried pace, provides a fitting backdrop for a week of rest, presence, and deep relaxation. No previous experience is needed.
The retreat is led by Dan Joy, author and internationally known mindfulness teacher. Mindfulness weaves through the entire week – in how you touch, how you move, how you give and receive, and how you meet yourself and others.
Over the course of the week, you will learn to give a full two‑hour ritual Lomi Lohi massage. Step by step, in an unhurried and supportive learning environment, you will develop a grounded, confident touch that you can offer to friends and loved ones – and, if you choose, as the beginning of a future practice.
A central part of the retreat is both giving and receiving. You will experience multi‑handed Lomi sessions, where several people work together – offering a sense of being held, supported, and cared for – and you will also learn how to offer that experience to others.
Over the week, you become part of the wider Lomi Lohi community in Switzerland. This is not only about what happens during the retreat, but also about staying connected afterwards – through community days, shared practice and ongoing exchange. Many people leave feeling rested, clearer and more at home in their bodies, with a sense of belonging that continues beyond the week itself.

WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE
Giving and Receiving Mult-Hand Lomi-Lohi is part of the course.
Lomi Lomi has been my personal favourite form of massage for many years, and I have experience of a wide variety of somatic healing methods. The turning point came at an Ecstatic Dance festival, where I experienced a six‑handed Lomi Lomi session with mindfulness teacher and Lomi Lohi developer Dan Joy and his team: it felt less like “a massage” and more like ceremony, rhythm, presence and love threaded together. That experience left me with a simple clarity:
I wanted more of this quality of presence in my life.
I entered Dan’s training primarily for its mindfulness dimension rather than with the goal of “becoming a practitioner.” The real attraction was the promise of increasing my capacity for compassion and my ability to stay fully present with others while remaining completely present to myself. The course delivered exactly that, and I have since also organised Lomi Lohi trainings for Dan in Bern, Switzerland, staying close to this lineage of slow, aware touch.
